The International Fencing Federation celebrates every year in April the “Fencing for the planet” program to encourage the fencing world to act in favor of the environment. The 2025 edition coincided with the Junior and Cadet World Championships from Wuxi (China). Representatives of the FIE, including the vice-presidents of the body Donald Anthony Jr. and Henriette Tamas, met with local schoolchildren and planted a tree symbolically. "We call on all sports federations around the world to do everything in their power for the Earth and its environment. We are doing this to ensure a healthy and prosperous world for future generations of athletes.", declared the general secretary of the FIE, Gulnora Saidova.
Uzbek fencer Luisa Fernanda Herrera Lara believes that "Planting this tree symbolizes that we are growing as a community and growing together, as well as our commitment to future generations in favor of a sustainable planet"His counterpart, Lemuel Jing Yoo Huang, also stressed the importance of this type of initiative: “Fencing for the Planet is important because we travel the world as athletes and are responsible for the next generation. Some of the initiatives taken by the fencing community, such as the use of recycled materials for our equipment, such as shoes and even some fencing bags, are a big step towards raising awareness of the state of the climate in today's world. »
