La 2026 World Cup It's already breaking records. FIFA has reviewed the group stage, which is very positive according to its criteria. 4,644,549 people filled the stadiums over the first 72 matches of the tournament, already setting an attendance record – the previous one, dating back to 1994, was 3,5 million. This is hardly a surprise since, until now, in the format in place until 2022, the World Cup only consisted of 64 matches. 99,7% of available seats were occupied according to FIFA, thus responding to concerns arising from the particularly high ticket prices.
Spectators coming from 210 countries and territories attended this World Cup, demonstrating once again a strong international interest. As host countries, the United States, Canada, and Mexico logically top the list of countries with the most buyers. England, Germany, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, and France follow in the rankings.
In terms of viewership, the match between Mexico and South Africa became the most-watched English-language opening match in the USA (7,2 million viewers). Records were also broken in Canada. The match against Morocco also marked the best TV audience of the year in Brazil with an average of 28,9 million viewers. Globo recorded 49,9 million unique individuals across all its platforms for the same match.
