Forever first! Nigeria became African flag football champion Saturday, for both men and women, in Cairo. This first edition met the expectations of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), according to its president, Pierre Trochet. I am extremely proud and grateful to the Egyptian federation, which hosted this landmark event with great professionalism and warmth. But history is less important than the future, and this tournament demonstrated the enormous talent and passion for the game that exists across the African continentWe know this event is just the beginning and, together with our NFL partners, we are committed to ensuring it serves as a springboard for the long-term development of our sport. »
The president of the Egyptian federation, Ali Rafeek, is on the same wavelength: " There are no words to express the emotion of that moment. It was a world-class competition, filled with exceptional performances and, above all, incredible energy. We have been preparing for this moment with the IFAF leaders and our other federations for a while, and we are proud to see this hard work come to fruition. Africa is officially on the flag football map, and we're just getting started. » The tournament was organized in partnership with the NFL, which oversaw a series of parallel activities, including a continental championship for U12s. Two current NFL players, Bobby Okereke and Tanoh Kpassagnon, of the New York Giants, were present.
