Tayyab Ikram assured of victory

Hockey

There will be no suspense in the election for the presidency of the International Field Hockey Federation (FIH). The body has announced that it has registered only one candidate, that of the incumbent, Pakistani Mohammad Tayyab Ikram (photo above). Elected for the first time in November 2022, after the resignation of Indian Narinder Batra, he will undoubtedly be reappointed for a first full term of four years. A former coach of Pakistan and India, Mohammad Tayyab Ikram is a member of the IOC Olympic Solidarity Commission. The battle looks more uncertain for the other two elections, also scheduled for the next FIH Congress, on 9 November 2024 in Muscat. Three candidates will indeed compete for the two women's places on the executive committee: Uruguayan Danae Andrada Barrios, German Katrin Kauschke and Zambian Hazel Kennedy. There will also be three of them competing for the two men's places at stake: Alberto Daniel Budeisky (Argentina), Erik Cornelissen (Netherlands), and Deon James Morgan (South Africa).
