Good news for Switzerland: it can continue the “privileged dialogue »with the IOC with a view to organizing the Winter Games in 2038. During an extraordinary assembly of the Sports Parliament, Thursday May 23, the Olympic federations members of the national Olympic committee (Swiss Olympic) gave the green light unanimously in pursuit of the adventure. Switzerland can therefore continue to prepare its Winter Games project on a national scale, benefiting until 2027 from exclusivity to deepen its application file. At the helm, the association “Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Switzerland 2038», created last year by Swiss Olympic and the Olympic winter sports federations. It will be able to count on the support of a strong reinforcement: Dario Cologna, 38 years old, four-time Olympic cross-country ski champion. He was chosen to serve as an athlete representative on the steering committee, co-chaired by Ruth Wipfli Steinegger, vice-president of Swiss Olympic, and Urs Lehmann, president of the Swiss Ski Federation. During the same meeting of the Sports Parliament, sports federations and partner organizations also approved the proposal to provide the association with a budget of 6,9 million Swiss francs (7 million euros at the current rate) until December 2027. Swiss Olympic will contribute 6,7 million of this sum through its long-term investment fund.
