Change of scenery. The next ski cross and snowboard cross world championships, initially planned for this year in China, will finally take place in Sweden. The two disciplines will be brought together on the same site, in the Swedish resort of Idre Fjäll, from February 11 to 13, 2021. The freestyle skiing and snowboarding world championships for all disciplines should have been held this year in Zhangjiakou, China, site of the Olympic events at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, but the International Ski Federation (FIS) announced last December that the event would be moved due to the health crisis. It is now certain that the 2021 Worlds will be split into several locations. Sweden will therefore have ski cross and snowboard cross. The other disciplines – moguls, aerials, halfpipe, slopestyle and big air – could take place in Calgary, Canada. The Alberta city has expressed its wish to host the Worlds, but it still needs to obtain the green light, and funding, from local and state authorities.
