No change in Qatar. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani was re-elected at the end of last week for a new four-year term (2024-2028) as President of the National Olympic Committee (QOC). A re-election whose impact extends beyond the borders of Qatar, as the leader is also Vice-President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani was the only candidate for his own succession. He had already been unanimously re-elected in December 2021 for a new term as President of the QOC. True to form, Qatar is due to host several major international events during the Olympiad, including the 2025 World Table Tennis Championships and the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
