The International Gymnastics Federation Foundation voted today to elect its steering committee in Antwerp, Belgium, on the occasion of the 44rd Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. Only one change in the new team, Albertine Gonçalves succeeds Mounir Sabet to represent Africa.
The only woman to date to lead a sports federation in Senegal, Albertine Gonçalvez has an atypical career path in the industry. She has never been a high-level athlete but has already managed two Senegalese federations, that of cycling and that of gymnastics. Winner of the IOC Women and Sport Trophy in 2006, she is also Vice-President of the African Gymnastics Union.
