The Russians will soon be back

weight lifting

The movement is growing. After World Aquatics, which announced their return to swimming relays and collective events in diving and artistic swimming, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) seems ready to reinstate Russian athletes. The new president of the Russian federation of the discipline, Dmitry Vasilenko, explained to the national media that he had obtained from Mohammed Jalood, the president of the IWF, the assurance of a return of his country's athletes to international competitions as early as next spring. "A roadmap for admitting Russian athletes to the 2025 European and World Weightlifting Championships will be drawn up this week", specifies the Russian federation. The European Championships are scheduled for April in Moldova. As a reminder, the IWF executive committee authorized Russian and Belarusian weightlifters to participate in all international tournaments in May 2023, but under conditions of neutrality. The Russians did not accept these requirements and refused to take part in the competitions. Their presence would now be possible without having to go through a process of eligibility for neutral status.
