End of story. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the appeals filed by two Russian biathletes, Evgeniy Ustyugov (photo above) and Svetlana Sleptsova. They had been suspended for doping but contested the sanction. The two athletes are therefore removed from the records for the 2013-2014 season, a year marked by the Sochi Winter Games. Evgeniy Ustyugov had tested positive for oxandrolone, a steroid, by the Moscow laboratory in 2013. His suspension, retroactive but now official, is not without consequences for the results of the Sochi 2024 Games since the biathlete was a member of the Russian relay that was crowned Olympic champion. Russia therefore loses another gold medal. It will be given to Germany. Austria will inherit the silver medal and Norway, at the foot of the podium at the end of the race, will recover the bronze. The suspension of Svetlana Sleptsova will have no consequences, however, as the Russian did not participate in the World Cup or the Olympic Games during the 2013/2014 season.
