Qatar provides additional funding to WADA

Anti-doping

While some countries refuse to pay their contribution, Qatar is playing the solidarity card. The emirate's Ministry of Sports and Youth has granted $1,5 million more to the World Anti-Doping Agency to fund scientific research. This amount is in addition to the Qatar's annual contribution of more than $200.000.

"This additional funding will have a significant impact on anti-doping research worldwide as well as in Qatar, says WADA President Witold Bańka, who met with His Excellency Yasser bin Abdulla Al Jamal, Undersecretary of the Qatari Ministry of Sports and Youth, last week. The AMA expresses its gratitude for this additional funding. This is a new evidence of the strong support WADA receives from governments around the world, who believe in us and trust us to carry out our mission in favor of clean sport, and who understand the importance of cutting-edge scientific research.

This additional funding will be used to finance three specific areas: research conducted in Qatar by the WADA-accredited laboratory in Doha, research conducted by WADA internationally, and a partnership between WADA and the Doha laboratory aimed at developing the laboratory's annual symposium.
