
The Paraguayan government has promulgated a special law for international sporting events, the first of its kind on the American continent, in order to facilitate the hosting of major competitions in ParaguayThis law guarantees tax and customs exemptions total for sports equipment, free and expedited entry visas for athletes, officials and accredited parties, or even protections of broadcasting rights. This new legal framework will be applied for the first time during the 75th FIFA Congress, to be held in Asunción on 15 May, and will govern all events declared of international sporting importance by presidential decree.
"Paraguay is not only participating in the Olympic Movement, but is helping to shape its future throughout the Americas. This legal framework demonstrates that President Peña strongly supports the organization of sporting events with social impact and the positioning Paraguay as the continental capital of sport », applauds Camilo Pérez López Moreira, president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP). Another law was enacted to create a permanent organizing committee, responsible for the planning and coordination of all major international sporting events.
« This unprecedented initiative strengthens Paraguay's event management capabilities ", underlines the COP, and guarantees that future competitions - starting with the 2025 Junior Pan American Games and the 2026 World Skate Games – will benefit from an experienced technical team. "These laws reflect our ambitious vision: to transform Paraguay into a global sports center, declared the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña. We lead the way in successfully organizing world-class events and the use of sport as a driver of development and growth and integration for our country." The country hopes in particular to obtain the organization of the 2030 Youth Olympic Games.
