Changes are afoot for para shooting. Previously managed within the International Paralympic Committee, it will soon come under the command of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). An agreement to this effect has been signed between the two organizations. This operation will make the ISSF the single global authority for sport shooting, with unified governance, harmonized standards, and coordinated development strategies.

« The ISSF firmly believes that bringing Olympic and Paralympic shooting together under a single governing body constitutes a an important step for the unity and future of our sport, affirms its president Luciano Rossi. Our goal is to strengthen sport shooting worldwide, by guaranteeing equal visibility, common development pathways, and consistent standardsWhile fully respecting the identity and specific needs of Paralympic athletes, this process will be conducted transparently, with the full participation of our community. »

« We believe this transfer offers promising prospects for the continued growth of Paralympic shootingThis will allow the sport to benefit from closer alignment with its Olympic equivalent while maintaining the high standards expected within the Paralympic Movement. We are confident that this will be beneficial for athletes, organizers, and the entire shooting community worldwide. " adds IPC President Andrew Parsons.

Next step: ratification by the ISSF member federations at the General Assembly scheduled for the end of the year. The ISSF is considering a gradual integration over a two-year period for stability reasons and to minimize disruptions in the lead-up to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
