Hard blow for the sports movement in America. Panama announced at the end of last week its decision to abandon the organization of the next edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games. It was planned for 2022 in Panama City. The cause is the COVID-19 pandemic, which is particularly severe in Panama, with more than 1.200 deaths and nearly 60.000 cases, for a population of slightly more than 4 million inhabitants. Curiously, Panama's sports authorities were still assuring in mid-July that the event could take place on their soil. They just wanted to move the date. The Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO) held an emergency meeting on Saturday July 25 to find a plan B. According to its president, Luis Mejia, the Games will take place in 2022. All that remains is to find them a new host country.
