Optimistic ? Unlike many world organizations, the International Climbing Federation (IFSC) still believes in its chances of holding a few events before the end of 2020. It announces the new dates for the Olympic qualifying competitions for Asia and Oceania. The Asian Climbing Championships, initially scheduled for last March, will take place from December 10 to 13, 2020 in Xiamen, China. The Oceania Championships have been rescheduled for Sydney, from December 19-20, 2020. In line with the qualification system, each continental competition held in 2020 will award two places – one per gender – for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where climbing must make its debut among the additional sports. The only continental championship organized to date was held in Los Angeles from February 24 to March 1, 2020. It allowed Canadian Alannah Yip and American Colin Duffy to obtain a ticket for the Games. The European Championships have already been rescheduled in Moscow, from October 1 to 8, 2020. But the new dates for the African Championships have yet to be defined.
