The aim: to analyse the needs, constraints, feasibility and long-term impact of the proposed sites, and to identify the most relevant transport projects for ensure an optimal legacy of these Games to the territory. Some 5.000 contributions were received during the public consultation, open from December 10 to January 10. The final report is expected on March 8.

Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) chief executive Matt Carroll is calling for major competition venues to be validated before the end of June. "It is time to finalize the reviews and determine exactly what governments want to fund in terms of sites, he told the federal parliament on Friday, February 7. I think this has to happen in the first half of this year, for two reasons. The sports programme will start to take shape in 2026, and it is obviously important to start the construction process, or any other work that needs to be done, which will take some time."

Among the major projects are: Brisbane Live Arena, a 17.000-seat venue intended to host swimming, the Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre (6.000 seats), which will host part of the basketball tournaments, the Redland Whitewater Centre (8.000 seats) for canoe slalom, and the Chandler Indoor Sports Centre (10.000 seats) for gymnastics and wheelchair basketball. “It is important to get started now on decisions about sites and what will be built. Australia's construction industry is in high demand at the moment, recalls Matt Carroll. To be able to start building all these sites, wherever they are, we have to move quickly."
