The virtual Indoor Rowing World Championships were a resounding success.

The Virtual Indoor Rowing World Championships concluded on February 28th. For the first time, three events were on the program, organized in partnership with Concept2: the 1.000 meters, the 5.000 meters, and the one-minute race. 2300 participants rowed, sometimes in a gym, a garage, an office, a living room or a gymnasium, alone or with supporters.

The diverse profiles demonstrate the interest in the concept: The youngest rower was 10 years old, and the oldest was 92.World Rowing registered 21 participants aged 80 and over. Adapted rowing categories were also offered. The most represented countries were Great Britain (174), the United States (168), China (120), France (87), and Australia (63). Iran, India, Estonia, Egypt, Malaysia, Pakistan, China, Denmark, Canada, Greece, Ukraine, and Peru were also among the participants. 72 countries represented.

Six world records were beaten in the finals. Notable performances include that of Dane Var Guriardottir Hansen, who covered 368 meters in one minute, and that of American Nancy Cook in the 5.000 meters for the 60-64 age group (19'16"7).
