Morocco unveils its XL stadium

2030 World Cup

The project was announced as grandiose. It turns out to be extraordinary. In charge of its design, the American architectural firm Populous has unveiled the first images of the future Hassan II stadium in Casablanca, Morocco, built with a view to the Football World Cup in 2030. Produced in partnership with the Parisian firm Oualalou+Choi, the project is supposed to place Morocco in a strong position to host the final. With 115.000 seats, it will indeed become the largest in the world, just in front of the May Day Stadium in Pyongyang, North Korea, capable of accommodating 114.000 spectators. The Moroccan compound, located near the town of El Mansouria, about forty kilometers north of Casablanca, will be equipped with a translucent aluminum roof representing traditional Moroccan tents. It will be the only one, among the twenty stadiums in the competition, to be completely new. Preparations for the start of work have already begun. The end of the project is announced for the year 2028. Cost: 500 million euros.
