The International Rowing Federation (World Rowing) is playing it safe. Its annual congress, held virtually on Saturday, November 16, awarded Lucerne (photo above) the organization of the world championships in 2027. The Swiss city was in competition with another stronghold of world rowing, Varese, in Italy. The international body also validated the entry into the executive committee of two new members, Swiss Mathias Binder and British Guin Batten. They will replace Rosie Mayglothling (Great Britain) and Patrick Rombaut (Belgium), who have reached the age limit, as of 1 January. Finally, World Rowing welcomed a new member country, Sierra Leone. Its entry into the rowing family brings the number of national federations that are members of the international body to 160. The next World Rowing Congress will be held on 14 and 15 March 2025 in Seville, Spain.
