LA2028 abandons Santa Monica option for beach volleyball

Los Angeles 2028

Los Angeles 2028 will have to find another site for beach volleyball. After about two years of discussions with the city of Santa Monica, the organizing committee has decided that the competition will take place elsewhere. "Despite good faith efforts to reach an agreement that would benefit both the Santa Monica community and LA28, The two parties were ultimately unable to reach an agreement on community benefits, operational details and financial guarantees", the city explains in a press release.

Santa Monica is, however, exploring other options to participate in the event, for example through places of hospitality for countries, training sites or events intended for the public. “We would have loved to be a host city in 2028, said Mayor Lana Negrete. Although we are disappointed that an agreement was not reached, we remain eager to share the excitement that the Olympic Games will bring to our region and we are delighted to be a regional partner of this historic event.”
