The International Fencing Federation is picking up the pace two years before the Olympic Games. The FIE has just signed a series of memoranda of understanding with seven national federationsin Brazil, China, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain and South Korea.
Each national federation commits to to promote fencing more broadly over the next two years in preparation for Los Angeles 2028, "Fencing Road to LA28" working groups will be established to focus on four areas: marketing and communication; athlete promotion; content development; and stakeholder engagement.
« We are delighted with extremely positive reactions that we have received from our national member federations to help us strengthen, modernize and promote our sport in preparation for the Los Angeles Olympic Games, said Abdelmoneim El Husseiny, acting president of the FIE. As the world governing body for fencing, our efforts will be considerably strengthened at the local level thanks to our national member federations. Together, we hope to have a considerable positive impact throughout the world, on behalf of fencing and fencers worldwide. »
The memoranda of understanding also encourage national federations to develop partnerships in music, fashion or entertainment to reach new audiences. The FIE had signed a similar memorandum of understanding with the United States Federation in April.
