The upcoming revelation of a new wave of doping cases? Likely. The International Testing Agency (ITA) announces that it has started a vast program of re-analysis of samples from the Rio 2016 Games. It will be divided into two phases. The first focuses on samples from athletes still competing. It must be completed before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The second phase will take place in 2025 so that all new analyses, including possible results management procedures arising from positive cases, are carried out before the ten-year limitation period which will end in July 2026. The program to re-analyze samples from the London 2012 Games, initiated by the IOC before the Rio 2016 Games, has been completed by the ITA. It revealed 73 anti-doping rule violations, leading to the withdrawal of 31 athletes and the re-awarding of 46 Olympic medals in four sports.
