ISU counts on China

Skating

The Beijing 2022 Winter Games are a thing of the past, with two upcoming editions to be held in Europe – Milan-Cortina 2026 and the French Alps 2030 – but the International Skating Union (ISU) remains very much present in China. One example is its strategic rapprochement with the Winter Sports Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sports of China (CWSAC). The two parties recently met in the Chinese capital for a meeting billed as " very fruitful », dedicated to the development of ice skating sports and events in China. Chinese sports authorities have notably committed to supporting the ISU in its growth by 2030, through a series of initiatives focused on events, branding, promotion, sustainability and fan engagement. For the next season alone, Beijing is scheduled to host a stop on the brand new Short Track World Tour in December, followed by the World Championships in the same discipline in March 2025. Chinese authorities have also reiterated their desire to strengthen Beijing's position as " hub of elite skating », through the organization of international training camps for skaters and coaches, building on the legacy of the Winter Games in 2022.
