The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) has granted its wishes! The IOC has confirmed that 15 shooting events will be on the program for the Los Angeles 2028 Games, with 340 quotas allocated for athletes, as many as in Paris 2024. "It is significant that all the proposals made by the ISSF, under the leadership of President Luciano Rossi and Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra Di San Giacomo, have been approved by the IOC Sports Department, in recognition of the excellent cooperation between the two organizations over the past two years.", the ISSF welcomes in a press release.
From now on, eight athletes – and no longer six – will participate in the finals of the Men's 25m Rapid Fire Rifle and Pistol events. Furthermore, the finals of the 50m 3-position rifle will only include standing shooting, although prone and kneeling positions will also be part of the qualifications. "This new format will be more suited to the media and easier to understand for new audiences », estimates the ISSF. The mixed team finals, finally, will no longer take place in the format of a match for gold and a match for bronze: the four qualified teams will all compete together following an elimination system.
