Hard blow for the International Badminton Federation (BWF). Its first world event since the start of the health crisis, the Denmark Open, will be deprived of a large part of the Japanese elite, including world number 1, Kento Momota (photo above). According to Kyodo News, citing an internal source at the Japanese Badminton Federation, no less than 15 Japanese players registered for the Denmark Open have decided to give up making the trip. They fear health risks in Europe, where the number of COVID-19 cases has been increasing in recent weeks in a large number of countries. Scheduled from October 13, the Danish Open should mark the return to competition on the international circuit, interrupted since the cancellation of the All-England Open last March.
