It's official, boxing remains on the Olympic program

IOC

This time, it's certain: boxing will be on the program for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. The 144th IOC Session validated this decision on Thursday in Costa Navarino following the proposal made by the executive committee. A relief for World Boxing, formed two years ago with the ambition of restoring the reputation of the noble art. "This would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of all national federations, boxers, coaches, officials and leaders who worked together to make this happen, reacted Boris van der Vorst, president of the IF. I would like to personally thank each of them for their support and determination to ensure that boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic movement. World Boxing is very grateful to the IOC for the confidence he placed in our organization by reinstating boxing in the program for LA2028.”

Thomas Bach had expressed confidence about the outcome of this case at the beginning of the week. “During the 2024 Paris Games, 68 National Olympic Committees were represented in boxing competitions, underlines the IOC in its press release. In all, 31 won medals in 13 events in the discipline, including Cape Verde and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team, who won their first-ever Olympic medals. This was the highest ratio of NOCs competing to medal in any sport at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games." An iconic sport in which a large number of nations can express themselves, and in front of which the public will still be able to vibrate in Los Angeles.
