Isidoros Kouvelos takes the helm

The Hellenic Olympic Committee changes its leader. Isidoros Kouvelos was elected against the incumbent president Spyros Capralos, who had held the position for 16 years. Kouvelos received 21 votes, compared to 13 for Capralos. " I amdeeply movedand I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the honor you have given me by electing me, declared the winner after the vote. I succeed a man who made an enormous contribution to Greek sport, Spyros Capralos, who will always be at our side, and I thank him warmly for his support."Kouvelos, 72, is a a key figure in the sports movement in Greece. Former president of the Hellenic Equestrian Federation (2001-2012 then 2016-2021), he has already fulfilled the role of Vice President of the Hellenic Olympic Committeefrom 2005 to 2008. He was also chef de mission for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016. President of the International Olympic Academy since 2009, he is also member of the IOC Olympic Education Commission since 2018. In the new organisational chart, Stelios Angeloudis is now First Vice-President of the Committee, Michalis Mourotsos Vice-President and Stefanos Handakas Secretary General. IOC member Spyros Caprolos chairs the Association of European Olympic Committees (EOC).
