Intel confirms its tournament on the sidelines of the Tokyo Games

Esport

It’s official: an eSports competition will take place alongside the Tokyo Games. It will be organized, as announced before the postponement of the Olympic event, by Intel, one of the IOC's global partners within the TOP program. The American giant announced this on Wednesday May 5 via a press release. The Intel World Open will be presented as a team tournament of nations, limited to two electronic games, Rocket League et street fighter v But, due to the health crisis, it will take place entirely online, without the slightest presence of the finalists in Japan, as initially planned. Teams and players will represent their countries or regions, depending on the geographic areas. They will first compete in two qualifying stages, from June 1 to July 4, before final phases to designate the winners (July 11 to 14 for Rocket League, July 16 to 21 for Street Fighter V). At stake, two jackpots of $250.000 each. Intel's organization of this World Open with a slightly Olympic flavor seemed threatened by the recent announcement of the launch by the IOC of the first edition of its Olympic Virtual Series. The two competitions will ultimately take place in parallel.
