Gianni Infantino is taking care of his most loyal supporters. Present at the general assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), organized this week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the FIFA president confirmed that at least nine African teams will participate in the final phase of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. "At the 2026 World Cup, nine or ten African countries will participate in the competition", he explained at the podium, before inviting the nations of the continent to invest more in young footballers. "I encourage you all to continue investing in youth football because these children, these girls and boys, will be the stars of tomorrow" he said. Gianni Infantino also indicated that FIFA was considering increasing the number of African teams participating in the Women's World Cup to six. At the last edition, held last year in Australia and New Zealand, Africa was represented by only four countries (Nigeria, South Africa, Morocco and Zambia)
