India has never been a great volleyball country. But one of its events has just entered the Guinness Book of Records for a world record for participation. The international volleyball federation (FIVB) reports that the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Volleyball Foundation Festival, held last week in Bhubaneswar, India, made history by bringing together 430 players for an exhibition match. The previous record, 294 people, had been held since December 3, 2011 by the Association sportive de Saint-Genis-les-Ollières volleyball section, located in France in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The new world record was set during an 8-hour match, which ended with a score of 736 – 756. Held at the KIIT and KISS Athletic Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India, the festival attracted more than 40.000 children, including 5.000 players. It had 60 outdoor courts, allowing 480 participants to play volleyball simultaneously.
