It is "an innovative partnership" which should allow the IOC and the Games to enter into a "new digital era".The International Olympic Committee and Comcast NBCUniversal have renewed their Olympic media rights agreement through 2036. « The extension of media rights for the 2033-2036 cycle, which covers the Salt Lake City-Utah 2034 Winter Olympics and the 2036 Summer Olympics, is valued at 3 billion », specifies the IOC. Beyond the rights granted on all NBCUniversal platforms in the United States, including its Peacock streaming platform, the deal also includes “innovative joint strategic initiatives and projects”.
Comcast will indeed invest in " technology start-ups which will benefit the IOC » and will bring its expertise "in terms of technological infrastructure, connectivity and media to support the organization of the Olympic Games". For Thomas Bach, the American public will be able to experience the Olympics "like never before » thanks to this collaboration. « This agreement with Comcast is unprecedented because it goes far beyond the traditional media rights agreement that we have had for many years with our valued partner. Thanks to its innovative approach, which applies to all platforms, from linear to digital to streaming, we can now take our partnership to new heights, for the benefit of athletes, Olympic stakeholders, organizing committees and fans", underlines the IOC president.
