Surprising. According to a note from INSEE (National Institute of Statistics and Studies), the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games did not have a positive effect on hotel occupancy in France. It even fell between May and August 2024. In total, 89 million overnight stays were booked in hotels during this period, or 2,2 million fewer than in 2023. The drop was particularly sharp in the Paris region, with business customers deserting the capital and its close suburbs. The month of August did not allow hoteliers to make up for the loss recorded in June and July. Conversely, campsites had a very successful summer, with nearly 120 million overnight stays booked between May and August, up compared to the previous year.
