Tom Tate, Mayor of the city of Gold Coast, located fifty kilometers south of Brisbane, would like to welcome the best swimmers in the world to his home. A temporary pool (in Brisbane) is $2,5 billion. Do the maths. The economic argument obviously has weight in this age of sobriety. Tom Tate will, however, have a hard time making himself heard. The new Brisbane Live Arena, due to open on Roma Street, will have a capacity of 17.000 spectators and will therefore generate juicy revenues during the Games. Beyond the Olympic grand mass, it is intended to host concerts and various events, on the La Defense Arena model, also transformed into a temporary swimming pool for Paris 2024.
