Can Germany win the organization of the Summer Games in 2032? One of its oldest Olympic leaders believes so, but under certain conditions. President of the German Olympic Committee (DOSB) between 1992 and 2002, and honorary member of the IOC, Walther Tröger (photo above) explained to the magazine Kicker that the Rhine-Ruhr region's candidacy for the Games in 2032 would have to meet two challenges to hope to win. The first will be national: convincing the population of the interest of such a project, with the prospect of a referendum announced as almost certain. Not easy. But the second challenge pointed out by Walther Tröger will not be easy either. “ The concept and cost of the project are in line with the IOC Agenda 2020, he says. But we will have to make voters understand what the Rhine-Ruhr region really is. Traditionally, the Games are not awarded to a region, but to a city. And I don't think all IOC members know exactly what the Rhine-Ruhr region refers to. The bid committee must be able to create a brand around the project"
