The event may have gone unnoticed, as it is being held during the Paris 2024 Games. The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Athletes’ Commission appointed a new chairwoman last month. Namibian Gaby Ahrens (pictured above, in orange) was elected in Paris, on the sidelines of the Games, to chair the commission during the next Olympics. Aged 43, a three-time Olympian (2008, 2012 and 2016), this shooting specialist won bronze in women’s trap at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In May 2023, she became the first chairwoman of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Athletes’ Commission. As an athlete representative, she will now sit on the ANOC Executive Committee.
