The French government has presented an environmental roadmap for « exemplary and sustainable Games "in the Alps in 2030"This is an important commitment, especially as the mountains are increasingly suffering the consequences of climate change, and concerns have been raised about the impact of the event. This roadmap was developed in collaboration with the organizing committeeThe Olympic venue delivery company and the two host regions. Eight issues are listed:
- Emissions: optimize transport, accelerate decarbonized mobility strategies, and launch local carbon offsetting projects
- Energy: aim for efficiency and energy conservation, maximize the use of decarbonized energy sources
- Planning: restrict artificial development, maximize the use of bio-based materials harvested and processed in France, and consider sports practices in relation to the environment.
- Ecosystems and biodiversity: making the Alps a pioneering territory in biodiversity preservation by sustainably enhancing the natural heritage and local landscape
- Food: prioritize healthy, sustainable, and high-quality products
- Water: commit to water conservation and integrate water consumption related to snow production into a framework of transparent and shared management.
- “One Health”: anticipating, measuring and preventing all risks of pollution, and minimizing light and noise pollution.
- Circular economy: ensuring the responsible consumption of materials and packaging, anticipating the second life of all materials and objects during the design phase
