The Council of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has approved the increase in World Cup prize money from the 2025-2026 season, for all disciplinesThe envelope could increase by up to 20%: the FIS will guarantee a 10% increase, and an additional 10% could be added according to the wishes of each local organizing committee. It is clear that we still have much to do to reward our athletes as they deserveThis is an important step, but only one more in the long road ahead. », assures FIS president Johan Eliasch.
The Council also adopted several security measures, including a strengthening of equipment control procedures in ski jumping and a ban on rigid shin guards inside the boot in alpine skiing. The federation joined forces with the University of Innsbruck and found that rigid shin guards changed the mechanical properties of ski boots and significantly increased the security risks.
« As the international governing body of alpine skiing, we have an obligation to take a holistic approach, protect the health of athletes and maintain a level playing field. We have scientific data that confirm the existence of an increased risk, it is therefore our duty to regulate it ", explains Michel Vion, the FIS secretary general. In the event of a medical problem, athletes can submit a request to wear alternative shin guards, made of a soft material, subject to FIS approval.
