Europe under the British flag

Rowing

Change of leadership at the European Rowing Confederation. Organized virtually, the elective general assembly of the continental body was marked by the election as president of the British Annamarie Phelps (photo above). She will replace a veteran of international rowing, the Pole Ryszard Stadniuk (right in the photo), in place since 2008 but who was not seeking a new mandate. Annamarie Phelps was first elected to the European Rowing Board in 2017. She has long chaired the British Rowing Federation and sits on the National Olympic Committee (BOA) as vice-president. During the same general assembly, the Belgian Patrick Rombaut, the Czech Dusan Machacek and the Lithuanian Algirdas Raslanas were appointed by vote to represent Europe on the Council of World Rowing, the international body of the discipline. Finally, the first two editions of a new event on the calendar, the European Sea Rowing Championships (endurance and sprint), have been awarded to San Sebastian, in Spain, for the year 2022 (27 to October 31), and in La Seyne-Sur-Mer, France, for 2023 (August 31 to September 4).
