Will the future of world athletics be European? In the men's category, perhaps. World Athletics has announced in a press release the names of the three finalists for the title of Rising Star of the Year 2024, awarded each year to the best young athlete under 20. Two of them represent Europe. The trophy will be played between the Italian long jumper Mattia Furlani, the Jamaican triple jumper Jaydon Hibbert, and the Dutch middle distance specialist (1500m) Niels Laros. A favorite: Mattia Furlani, world record holder in the under-20 category, silver medalist in the senior category at the World Indoor Championships, and bronze medalist at the Paris 2024 Games. The name of the winner will be announced on December 1 on World Athletics' social networks.
