Egypt is a candidate for the Olympic Games. Not new, the Cairo authorities having already expressed on several occasions their desire to become the first African country to organize the event. But Egyptian ambition seems to have taken on a little more depth. Mustapha Berraf, president of the Association of African National Olympic Committees (ACNOA), took advantage of the body's extraordinary general assembly in Paris this week to confirm the Egyptians' decision to launch into battle. The Algerian leader informed his peers that Egypt was preparing a bid for the Summer Games in 2036 and 2040. In November 2022, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, Achraf Sobhi, had already seized the opportunity to Thomas Bach's visit to Cairo to announce the authorities' desire to prepare a bid for the Summer Games in 2036.
