Edgar Grospiron enters the race for the 2030 Olympics, Gérard Holtz too

French Alps 2030

After eight days of reflection, Edgar Grospiron has decided to take the plunge. The 1992 Olympic moguls champion declared his candidacy for the position of president of the organizing committee of the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. "This ambitious and collective project needs a leader who knows how to motivate and unite. I have already been confronted with this situation when I took over the management of the Annecy 2018 olympic bid. The project was at a standstill and no one wanted to get on board. I had to unite, convince, and bring on board as many skills as possible to get the project back on track", recalls the man who became a speaker.

"The challenge is simple: we have five years to deliver flawless Games. Usually, it takes seven. We have a budget of 2 billion euros to do it. In the past, it took more like 3. The question is with whom and how., he continues, displaying his determination. Edgar Grospiron has defined his top three priorities if he is appointed: set up the OCOG, confirm the master plan of the sites and establish a commercial and marketing strategy designed to attract partners. Another candidate, less expected, has come forward in recent days: former television journalist Gérard Holtz. "I thought about it when I heard the Minister of Sports Marie Barsacq say that we needed a profile that had sport in its heart! It struck me like a flash, he confided to Le Dauphiné. My passion is burning for this candidacy of the Alps." The former figure of the sports department of France Télévisions has put forward the idea of forming a duo with the ex-skater Nathalie Péchalat.
