Dolomites awarded 2028 Youth Olympic Games

It's official: the Youth Olympic Winter Games will take place in the Dolomites in 2028. The IOC validated this choice during the 143rd session of the body meeting in Lausanne on Thursday 30 January: 89 IOC members voted “yes”, against a "no" vote and two abstentions. Not a surprise since the IOC had announced the opening of a targeted dialogue with the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) in view of this attribution. "The election of Dolomiti Valtellina 2028 is the expression of the IOC confidence in Italy's ability to organise winter sports events exceptional world class », Thomas Bach emphasizes. The competitions will be concentrated around Valtellina, Trentino and Cortina, on some of the venues used for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics. “We want to inspire younger generations to embrace the values ​​of sport as a tool for inclusion and social cohesion – a universal language capable of uniting cultures and nations, and fostering the diplomacy we so desperately need”, commented Andrea Abodi, Italian Minister of Sports and Youth. These Winter YOG will be held 15 to 29 January 2028. Innsbruck (2012), Lillehammer (2016), Lausanne (2020) and Gangwon Province (2024) hosted the first four editions.
