Death of Olegario Vázquez Raña, honorary member of the IOC

The IOC expressed its deep sadness on Friday at the announcement of the death of Olegario Vázquez Raña, aged 89.This well-known figure of the Olympic movement represented Mexico in shooting at the Olympic Games in Tokyo 1964, Mexico City 1968, Munich 1972 and Montreal 1976. He was president of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) from 1980 to 2018, and IOC member from 1995 to 2015.He then became an honorary member of the organization in 2016. “As an athlete, administrator and global advocate for sport shooting, he has promoted his sport with unmatched passion and dedication, and modernized it, Thomas Bach confided in a press release. As an IOC member, he has always defended the Olympic values. I have had the great privilege of benefiting from his valuable advice for many years and to consider him a true friend. The entire Olympic movement will remember him with much respect and gratitude for the immense legacy he leaves behind." The IOC specifies that the Olympic flag will be flown at half-mast for three days at Olympic House as a mark of respect.
