Courchevel plays the ski mountaineering card

Ski

Selected in the French Alps 2030 bid for the alpine skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined events, Courchevel is thinking bigger. It aims to become the world capital of ski mountaineering, a new event on the Winter Games program, which will make its debut in Milan-Cortina in 2026. The media Ski Chrono reports that the Tarentaise resort is currently putting the finishing touches to the creation of a track dedicated exclusively to the sprint event, a three-minute format included (along with the mixed relay) in the 2026 Winter Games program. The track is located in Le Praz, not far from the ski jump. It will be equipped with permanent poles to allow training all year round. Courchevel was the first resort to have a marked, groomed and secured ski mountaineering course, back in 2012. It is now the first site in the world to offer a permanent sprint track. The new equipment will be officially inaugurated on Saturday, December 14 during the first round of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup.
