China

The big clean-up continues in Chinese football. After the former president of the federation, sentenced to life in prison for corruption, the former coach of the men's national team appeared this week before the judges of the Xianning court, in the province of Hubei. Li Tie (pictured above) is accused of paying and accepting bribes between 2019 and 2021, when he managed the national team. He would have received the total sum of 50,89 million yuan (approximately 7,04 million dollars), in exchange for his influence in the selection of certain players, the signing of contractors and even the results of matches. The former coach is also suspected of other crimes of the same nature committed between 2015 and 2019, when he worked for local clubs. Li Tie pleaded guilty. The date of the court verdict has not been announced.
