The effects of the coronavirus outbreak continue to affect international sport. They are hitting Chinese athletes harder and harder. The Chinese and Hong Kong badminton teams have been banned from participating in the upcoming Asian championships in the discipline. They are scheduled to take place from February 11 to 16 in Manila, Philippines. The organizers justified their decision by the measures taken by the Philippine authorities to stop the spread of the virus. They provide in particular for a ban on entry into the territory of travelers from China, Hong Kong and Macao. The ban on the participation of Chinese players comes just a few days after the announcement by the International Badminton Federation (BWF) that these same players would not be excluded from competitions on the world calendar. The Chinese were due to arrive in Manila on Sunday February 9. Too late to comply with the rules of a 14-day quarantine, introduced by the WHO to try to stop the spread of the virus.
