As expected, China will show up in force at the Paris 2024 Games. But its delegation will not break records. With 405 athletes, including 42 reigning Olympic champions, it is one unit lower than that of the Tokyo 2020 Games. The Chinese will be present in 30 sports and 236 events. More than half of those selected – 223 – will make their Olympic debut in Paris. Unsurprisingly, the Chinese delegation is predominantly female, with 259 women to 136 men. The youngest is a skateboard specialist, Zheng Haohao, only 11 years old. The oldest, walker Liu Hong (photo above), admits to being 37 years old. Olympic champion in Rio in 2016, she will participate in her fifth Olympic Games. With 56 participants, athletics is the most represented sport, ahead of swimming (32). The Olympic swimming team includes in its ranks 11 of the 23 swimmers involved in doping by contamination revealed last spring by the channel ARD and New York Times.
