Nothing changes in China. The country continues to cross out one by one the international sporting events it was supposed to host in 2022. Tennis is no exception. The ATP confirmed in a press release that the four men's professional circuit tournaments planned in China had been canceled due to the health crisis. The cancellation concerns the Masters 1000 in Shanghai (photo above), and the tournaments in Beijing, Chengdu and Zhuhai. A habit, since the Chinese tour traditionally scheduled in September and October will not take place for the third consecutive year. To replace these competitions, the ATP granted six events, but for one year only, the status of ATP 250 tournaments: San Diego (United States) from September 19 to 25, Seoul (South Korea) from September 26 to October 2, Tel Aviv (Israel), Florence (Italy) and Gijon (Spain) from October 10 to 16, and finally Naples (Italy) from October 17 to 23. Another change in the men's calendar for the last quarter: the Nur-Sultan tournament (formerly Astana, Kazakhstan), organized from October 3 to 10, moves from the ATP 250 category to the ATP 500 category with the status of a permanent tournament, replacing from that of Saint Petersburg (Russia).
