With less than 500 days to go until the opening of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games, China is getting ready for battle. Deputy Director of the General Administration of Sports of China (GASA), Li Jing, took advantage of a press conference on Wednesday, November 6, to detail the Olympic plan in anticipation of the event. More than 600 Chinese athletes are currently preparing for the next Winter Games, he explained, specifying that the 2024-2025 season would be decisive for qualification in a large number of disciplines. Chinese sports authorities have highlighted with a thick line the 9th Asian Winter Games, scheduled from February 7 to 14, 2025 in Harbin, in northeast China. They will mark a decisive step on the road to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games. According to Li Jing, China has won 117 medals, including 39 gold, at the various world championships and World Cups organized since the Beijing 2022 Winter Games. But the Chinese leader makes no secret of it: " There is still a considerable gap between us and the leading winter sports nations. Our preparation for the Winter Olympics in 2026 remains difficult and will be until the end."
