Chile confirms its intentions

Olympics 2036

No more doubt: Chile wants to try its luck in the race for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036. The Head of State, Gabriel Boric, confirmed this last week during a reception given at the presidential palace of Santiago in honor of the two Chilean medalists at the Paris 2024 Games, the wrestler Yasmani Acosta (silver), and the shooter Francisca Crovetto (gold). “After the immense success of the Pan American Games in 2023, we set ourselves a dream, perhaps crazy, but beautiful and in which all Chilean society can unite: to present our candidacy for the 2036 Olympic Games“, declared the Chilean president, quoted by national media. At this stage, Chile is not among the favorites, but the sports authorities have entered, like all the other applicants, into a dialogue phase with the IOC. The exchanges notably took shape during the Paris 2024 Games with a meeting between the Chilean Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro, the president of the Chilean Olympic Committee, Miguel Ángel Mujica, and the president of the commission for the future host of the Summer Games , Croatian Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.
